Hello and welcome! I am happy and excited to be your math teacher for the 2018-19 academic year. I earned a B.A. in Economics and M.A. in Demographic and Social Analysis from UC Irvine. I then attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and earned a M.A. and Ph.D. in Education. While there I taught algebra courses to college freshmen for two years. That experience allowed me to see the need for good math teachers at the secondary level and sparked my interest in helping students develop their mathematical proficiency. I am enthusiastic about the college-going culture at Ellen Ochoa Prep Academy and can't wait to see all the great success our students will enjoy in their futures!
Learning math takes hard work, practice, and commitment. I will do my best to prepare effective and meaningful lessons for you, utilizing class time. However, I need your help. For you to get the most out of class, I need you to come to class every day ready to learn. That means completing the homework from the previous day, bringing all course materials to class, and being a good citizen in the classroom. Homework will be assigned almost every day of the school year. As you know, mathematics is not like other subjects. Each level of mathematics (Math 1, Math 2, Math 3, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus) builds on the ones before. Thus, my goal for each of you is to develop a strong mathematical foundation that will help you succeed in subsequent math courses. Moreover, by putting in a lot of effort into learning math, you will develop awesome study skills that will carry over into other subjects as well. Are you ready for this? Let’s go!
